Current guidelines for safe playground spaces involve the installation of safety surfacing. These products vary greatly depending on the needs and preferences of the customer. A common surface material in the Northwest is Engineered Wood Fiber, a specialty manufactured wood chip that is free of hazardous materials and meets impact attenuation standards for playground use.
Another popular surface is poured in place rubber surfacing. This unitary layer rubber surfacing has benefits such as low cost maintenance, site specific designs, many colors combinations, and a soft cushioned play surface.
Other surfaces include: rubber tiles, rubber bark chips, and synthetic turf. Materials such as pea gravel and sand are still used, but have varying abilities to provide proper impact support for falls.
G.R. Morgan is qualified to install all of these safety surfaces and encourages clients to consider initial cost, maintenance costs, and long term suitability for the play environment. G.R. Morgan is not a sales representative for any particular safety surface, but is able to purchase these products and connect clients with sales people as needed.
