The wave of work and heat

We are on day 33 of no rain in Oregon! That must be some kind of record for our typically wet and lush state. With the dry heat has come a great wave of work and we are busy busy busy! We are so thankful for the work provided to us by all of our existing and new clients. We have been all over the map lately in Oregon and Washington discovering new locations, such as Mattawa, Wa and learning about tribal history on the Tulalip Indian Reservation. You can also spot us around the Portland metro area here and there and we will be making a big presence in Eugene and Corvallis this summer with multiple playgrounds and poured in place rubber surfacing installations.

We have recently finished up a few artificial turf installations and we really love the finished look of this product. Definitely a great alternative to wood chips if you are looking for a low maintenance and stable surfacing option.

More updates to come soon when we get a break from the heat! Stay cool Portland!

Reflecting on 2014

This year we have been very fortunate and thankful for the additions to our G.R. Morgan work family. We have two great new employees who are learning more and more each day, as well as welcoming back family members to the  ranks who have many years of experience in our special trade.

We have been thrilled to see and feel the economy springing back to life and keeping our business strong. We are so thankful for the opportunities to bring new energy and equipment to aged park spaces as well as be a part of brand new construction that will enrich communities all around Oregon and Washington.

A big thank you to all our playground vendors, suppliers and subcontractors for enabling us to perform quality work throughout the year for numerous clients. We appreciate all the opportunities to expand our business connections as well as provide great customer service to our clients.

Here's a toast to a busy and profitable 2015! Best wishes for a wonderful new year.

Silver Falls Natural Play Area

We cannot wait until the official opening of Silver Falls natural play area scheduled for June 2014.  We are anticipating heavy traffic and exciting reactions once parents and children see this unique play area.

Two years in the making and two separate installations went into the creation of this animal themed area. The Cougar, Bear and Bird areas are themed with information related to each animal that children can interpret and emulate during imaginative play time. Architect Michelle Mathis, previously with Greenworks at the time of creation, and now the owner of Learning Landscapes, was a constant resource for creativity and execution of this project. All of the State Parks staff were instrumental in providing natural resources such as huge logs for the totems and climbing features, down to the smallest of peeler logs for fence rails.

In November, Stephanie Morgan spoke on behalf of G.R. Morgan with members of ORPA at a conference regarding natural play environments. It was very well attended and issues involving liability, design, financial investment and long term use were all discussed. You can find out more about what is happening with natural play all over Oregon at the Oregon natural play initiative (ONPlay) blog
